We’re very sorry to announce that David Graham, best know for his portrayals of many classic Supermarionation characters, has died aged 99.
David began his acting career swiftly following his military service in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Following his early career in the theatre and television, David was introduced to a young Gerry Anderson in 1959, which began a flourishing career for David as a voice artist for many of Gerry’s classic puppet productions.
David’s debut puppet roles were Grandpa Twink and Fernando in Four Feather Falls. Afterwards, David’s close association with Gerry would continue with his portrayals of Doctor Beaker and Mitch the Monkey in Supercar, Professor Matt Matic, Lieutenant 90 and Zoonie the Lazoon in Fireball XL5 and numerous guest roles in Stingray. His most famous role would come in Thunderbirds with this portrayal of Aloysius ‘Nosey’ Parker, alongside his other regular roles as Thunderbird 4 aquanaut Gordon Tracy, International Rescue engineer Brains, and the Tracy family’s faithful manservant Kyrano.
David’s career stretched into other much-loved cult TV works, including The Avengers, The Saint, and Danger Man. Outside of Thunderbirds, his other notable contribution to the worlds of science fiction was one of several voices of the Daleks throughout their early onscreen appearances. He would return to voice the Daleks in 2023 for the official colourised edited version of the second Doctor Who serial The Daleks as part of the series’ 60th anniversary celebrations.
David’s eclectic career, which also saw him star in recent children’s TV series Peppa Pig and Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom, would see him return to the worlds of Anderson in recent years. David voiced several characters in the Terrahawks audio revival in 2017, reuniting him with fellow Four Feather Falls alumni Denise Bryer. David also reprised his much-loved role as Parker for 2015’s Thunderbirds Are Go, performing the role throughout all three seasons of the semi-CGI remake.
David Graham leaves behind a fantastic legacy of beloved characters. We’d like to extend our best wishes and sympathies to all who knew David.
