Many people outside of Slough will not know that the Berkshire town was where some of the
most famous television series from the 1960s were created and filmed. The home of the Mars
bar, The Office, and the largest industrial estate in Europe, Slough welcomed Gerry Anderson to
the town in 1959, where he filmed ground-breaking television series including Thunderbirds,
Captain Scarlet and Stingray up until the 1969 from his studios on Ipswich Road and later Stirling
Road on the Slough Trading Estate.
Now, over 60 years later, Gerry Anderson’s son Jamie, Director of Anderson Entertainment, will
open the first custom-built video podcast studio in Slough in collaboration with Moxy Slough and
Neal Veglio of Podknows Podcasting.
Moxy Slough has 152 rooms and artwork featuring characters from Thunderbirds adorns the
walls throughout the hotel. Anderson Entertainment worked closely with the hotel’s contractors
and management to help deliver an authentic Thunderbirds experience to visitors while
maintaining the Moxy’s urban aesthetic and style.
The idea was born to create the podcast studio in one of the conference rooms at Moxy Slough,
as Jamie and the team at the hotel want to bring something different to Slough, as well as
promoting the opportunities it will provide for the local community, who will in time also be able to
use the audio and video facilities.
Jamie Anderson said: ”We want to bring podcasting to Slough, instead of people going to
London or one of the other big cities like Birmingham or Manchester. We want Slough to be the
hub of podcasting. Since 1960 there has been a long history of all things Gerry Anderson in
Slough. This new podcast studio heralds a new era for the weekly Gerry Anderson Podcast,
which has been running for five years now, giving it a home base and the opportunity to add a
video element to it, which is very exciting. Our listeners, the Podsterons, are already excited to
see the new upgraded show!”
Jamie Anderson and his podcast co-hosts Olivier & Offie nominee Richard James (Space
Precinct, Terrahawks) and Chris Dale currently talk to guests over Zoom, but with the new studio
set-up Anderson wants to bring people into the studio in Slough to have different types of
conversations. Anderson added: ”I can’t wait to give people their voice, sitting down with them
and chatting in the same room as myself and the podcast team.”
Chris Thomas, General Manager of Moxy and Residence Inn Slough says: “The Marriott Moxy &
Residence Inn Slough has built a strong relationship with Jamie Anderson since the design and
development stages of the hotel. We worked together to incorporate the amazing history of
Thunderbirds through bespoke artwork and guest experiences. When the opportunity came to not
only host the Gerry Anderson Podcast but also create our very own dedicated podcast studio in
the hotel, it was like a light bulb moment. This exciting partnership will shine a light on Slough,
cement our ties with Anderson Entertainment and the legacy of Thunderbirds, and provide the
community with a dedicated podcast space in the near future. We are super excited about this
opportunity – watch this space for a Moxy Slough Podcast coming your way soon!”
The Gerry Anderson Podcast is a weekly audio extravaganza released every Monday on all
major podcast providers and platforms. It features Gerry Anderson chat, news, interviews,
reviews, competitions, and Chris Dale’s amazing Randomiser which takes listeners on an
episode-by-episode journey through six decades of Gerry Anderson shows. Recent interviewees
for the podcast include Sophia Myles (Lady Penelope from the 2004 Thunderbirds film), Gary
Numan (music legend who grew up loving and being inspired by Gerry Anderson shows),
Professor Brian Cox & Robin Ince (The Infinite Monkey Cage), David Graham (voice of Parker,
Brains, Gordon Tracy and many more), Sophie Aldred (Ace from Doctor Who and Thunderbirds
afficionado) and Lee Sullivan (comic artist behind Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Transformers,
Rivers of London and many other titles).
Jamie Anderson says that along with Podknows Podcasting he wants to take the Gerry Anderson
Podcast to the next level, as well as providing exciting opportunities for other people.
Neal Veglio of Podknows says: “I was already a dedicated Podsteron before this collaboration
opportunity came to fruition. So the fact I get to work so closely with Anderson Entertainment and
the Moxy Slough in developing this podcast studio into something the community can be proud of
is super exciting!“
Jamie Anderson added: “So many of my father’s great works of television history were made in
Slough, and I am delighted that this studio marks Anderson Entertainment’s return to the town,
as well as an exciting opportunity for everyone involved!”
