In celebration of Terrahawks' arrival on our YouTube channel, let's countdown 10 of our favourite episodes from the cult classic Supermacromation series!

10. Play it Again, Sram

There aren't many other Gerry Anderson series whose episodes come with tongue-in-cheek references to Star Trek, Rod Stewart and Casablanca. Not to be outdone by the melodious tones of the Terrahawks' own undercover pop star, Kate Kestral, Zelda sets her sights on winning the The Interstellar Song Contest. In true android fashion, she might have a few underhand tricks up her villainous sleeve - particularly in her choice of drummer! Play It Again, Sram revels in its knowing absurdity. It's one of those Terrahawks episode that's low on threat and high on daftness, but its overwhelming sense of fun and on-the-nose parodies of real-world pop artists makes it hugely enjoyable.

9. Mind Monster

Terrahawks may be famed for its surreal humour, but episodes like Mind Monster highlight how the series was also easily capable of producing cerebrally haunting episodes, too. In Mind Monster, Zelda attacks the Terrahawks with a seemingly empty container which in fact provokes the deepest fears of anyone who dares to gaze into its contents. A psychological battle quickly takes down the Terrahawks one by one, forcing Tiger to ensnare this invisible enemy alone and risk paying the ultimate sacrifice. One of Terrahawks' grimmer episodes, balancing a weirdly unseeable threat with character-driven drama.

8. Space Cyclops

Terrahawks' rogues gallery of unpredictable alien menaces gives the series free reign to include any number of petrifying or mind-bending antagonists. One of the series' most grotesque is the Space Cyclops. The episode's opening scenes involving a compellingly effective model sequence of a space probe becoming ensnared in the cyclops' tentacle-like grip sends the Terrahawks on a desperate mission to stop this all-consuming beast. The manner in which Sgt. Major Zero and Dix-Huit stop the Space Cyclops is revoltingly hilarious, injecting a touch of humour into an episode that boasts one of Terrahawks' most sickly creatures.

7. The Sporilla

With its thrilling 'base under siege' premise, deadly monster and moralistic twist, The Sporilla is an early gem from Terrahawks' first series. Zelda's sabotaging of the space tracking station on Jupiter moon Callisto lures the Terrahawks into an inescapable trap against the rampaging Sporilla. The episode gradually unfolds its dread-induced jeopardy to great effect as it becomes apparent to Tiger and Kate that they've been tricked. But just how strong is Zelda's influence over this seemingly ferocious creature? The Sporilla subverts expectations that throws shades of grey over Zelda's supposedly justified acquisition of fellow space aliens to terrorise the Terrahawks with.

6. Zero's Finest Hour

Much of Terrahawks' humour comes from the comically volatile relationship between Tiger and Sergeant Major Zero, leader of the Terrahawks' army of spherical robots. Tiger's constant belittlement of Zero's inability to be a real man is turned upside down in Zero's Finest Hour. When a space bloom from Zelda knocks Terrahawks' human crew unconscious, leaving Hawknest vulnerable to attack, Zero leads the charge in defending the Terrahawks' base, once again proving that he's more man than machine. Zero's Finest Hour is a delightful showcase of the Zeroids' appeal in the series and Zero's confident leadership with a satisfying twist of the Zeroids themselves saving the day without their human leaders.

5. Two for the Price of One

Terrahawks rarely gets more compellingly surreal than this. The incoming birth of Cy-Star's child android is enough to distract the androids from the Terrahawks' assault on Mars using the newly unveiled Spacetank. Prior to opening fire on the androids' Martian base, their overhearing of It-Star's birth throws the mission into chaos. Unfortunately, Mary's justification of 'the gift of innocence' that comes with the arrival of a newborn can't be extended to this latest addition to the android family. It-Star proves to be a hugely welcome addition to the villains, enlivening proceedings with their genderfluid persona and dastardly mentality for composing schemes of destruction against the Terrahawks.

4. Thunder Path

Terrahawks' earlier episodes capture the series in an uncertain stage. Terrahawks had yet to fully embrace its characteristic sense of humour and episodes such as Expect the Unexpected and Close Call are noticeable for their dry, humourless focus on straight-forward action. Thunder Path sees this earlier incarnation of the series hit a neatly produced balance between the dangerous thrill of Sram's hijacking of the Overlander and the Zeroids' amusingly novel method of stopping Sram, which also enables Thunder Path to boast some of Terrahawks' most superb special effects.

3. The Ultimate Menace

Humans and androids are forced to align when the unstoppable Zyklon threatens to exterminate the entire universe. Such an outlandish premise may initially be tough to take seriously, but The Ultimate Menace is played entirely straight, with the meticulous and menacing model of the Zyklon one of the series' most impressive model-making feats. The Zyklon itself, effectively a fusion of Star Wars' Death Star and The Transformers' Unicron, may be frustratingly underdeveloped as a character, but as an unstoppable force of evil, it gives Terrahawks a startlingly imposing threat to battle against.

2. Cry UFO

Anderburr Records' hapless studio assistant Stew Dapples (geddit?) begins Terrahawks as little more than comedic fodder to counterbalance Terrahawks' science-fantasy adventure, but Cry UFO showcases a engagingly sympathetic side to him, his career ambitions and desire to be noticed by Kate Kestral. Stew's experiences of witnessing a colossal flying saucer are laughed out by everyone around him - except for Kate. Cry UFO finds a handsome balance between slice-of-life humour and cosmic mystery, gifting this undervalued character an engrossing episode all to himself.

1. Happy Madeday

Zelda's monsters can tear down mountains with a single roar or bend time, but one of her most unsettling minions boasts a far simpler ability. MOID, Master of Infinite Disguise, lures the unsuspecting Hiro to an icy location to entrap and impersonate him to then infiltrate Hawknest. It falls to the Zeroids to stop the enemy agent in an episode that wonderfully juxtaposes the creeping menace of MOID with the comical command of the Zeroids. MOID's introduction sees the character develop from an imperceivable menace to a figure of sympathy for the Terrahawks. MOID's plans may falter once his disguise is unravelled, but his eventual confrontation with Hiro enables Happy Madeday to end on a surprisingly downbeat note that's at odds with how many Anderfans are quick to dismiss Terrahawks' comedic leanings.
