5 of the Best Stories from Stingray: Deadly Uprising - The Gerry Anderson Store

Marineville - we are calling Battle Stations! Between 2024 and 2025, in celebration of Stingray's 60th anniversary, a brand new Stingray saga was released across novels, comics, and audio. Stingray: Deadly Uprising tells a brilliantly new and authentic Stingray adventure set within the original world of the classic series.

Throughout Deadly Uprising's various instalments, the mighty Titan plots of overthrow Marineville once and for all by amassing a grand armada of underwater civilisations. The WASPs in turn attempt to bolster their own forces in preparation for Titan's assault. Both sides are beset by victories and defeats alike as brand new characters, vehicles, and expansions of Stingray's established lore swell together to create an enthralling multi-platform adventure.

Let's count down five of the best stories from Stingray: Deadly Uprising!

5. Project Orca

Stingray Project Orca [HARDCOVER NOVEL] - The Gerry Anderson Store

The unthinkable has happened - Stingray is retired! When the mighty warlord Titan's efforts to target Marineville with his blossoming armada of underwater races reaches a dangerous precipice, the WASPs must entertain the utilisation of the Orca, the mightiest underwater warship produced by World Security Patrol. Unfortunately, Surface Agent X-20 closes his grip around exploiting the newly launched vessel to gain Titan's approval.

Bob Ayres' novel is the third instalment in the Deadly Uprising saga, but much like Chris Dale's The Titanican Stratagem, this can be greatly enjoyed as a mostly standalone Stingray adventure. Project Orca balances thrilling aquatic adventure when the deadly Orca falls into enemy hands but excels in balancing these dramatic scenes with a fun reliance on character interplays between new and classic heroes and villains.

4. Tempest Fugit

Stingray Comic Anthology Volume Two – Battle Lines [HARDCOVER] - The Gerry Anderson Store

Writer Nick Abadzis and artist Simon Fraser craft an intoxicating psycho-drama with Tempest Fugit. Evocative colours, swirling page layouts, and a narrative style that plays deeply into the underwater fantasy aspects of Stingray's chiefly sci-fi world make for a compelling comic strip adventure. The Stingray crew's attempts to gain new allies with a mysterious underwater race with mind-probing capabilities risks turning hostile when the Sillicans are uncertain of the WASP's attempts to convince them that they aren't warmongers. Tempest Fugit and the preceding Rescue from the Depths make for a engrossing two-parter, but the psychological qualities come to life at their strongest in this climactic instalment.

3. Battle for Marineville

Stingray Comic Anthology Volume Two – Battle Lines [HARDCOVER] - The Gerry Anderson Store

The final enthralling entry in the Deadly Uprising saga explodes out of the deception and mysteries of many previous chapters and delivers a full-throttle blitzkrieg that ends the saga. Ernie Altbacker, Lee Sullivan, and Connor Flanagan craft a riveting climactic underwater warzone depicting Titan's massed forces delivering their final assault against Marineville, with the WASP desperately trying to counter Titan's efforts. All of Stingray's major characters are actively involved, packing in plenty of satisfying hints and nudges to wider Stingray lore that makes Battle for Marineville read like the large-scale finale the TV series never enjoyed.

2. The Undefeated

Stingray Deadly Uprising – The Comic Collection - The Gerry Anderson Store

James Swallow and Matt Brooker expertly and entertainingly prize open established events from Stingray's TV continuity, creating a riotously entertaining sequel to one of the series' best-loved episodes. The Solarstar race would appear to meet a very final end during the ending events of the much-loved TV episode The Big Gun. However, as The Undefeated reveals, Titan forms one of his trickiest alliances with the survivors of the city of Solarstar. Both underwater despots may share a common hatred for the WASPs, but neither is willing to trust each other. Swallow's narrative compels with its deadly deceptive villainy, while Brooker's stylised artwork captures a nervously coiled edge to the proceedings, all intense inks and brooding colours.

1. The Titanican Stratagem

Stingray: The Titanican Stratagem – Signed Limited Edition [HARDCOVER NOVEL] - The Gerry Anderson Store

Following on from the scene-setting audio prequel adventure, Deadly Concerto, Chris Dale's The Titanican Stratagem is the first major instalment in the Deadly Uprising saga. The novel charts Titan's attempts to woo the Igneatheans from the TV episodes A Nut for Marineville and Trapped in the Depths. Dale's novel bursts with delightful familiarity of all of the combined winning elements from the classic series - humour, adventure, heroism, and underwater jeopardy. Dales expands on underexposed avenues of Stingray's TV canon to craft a thrilling adventure in which Titan's adversarial nature comes back to bite him.

As the first original Stingray novel since 1966's Stingray and the Monster by John Theydon, The Titanican Stratagem is an oddly significant outing that breathes new life into Stingray's retrofuture underwater universe that succeeds in situating itself within the classic aesthetic of the original series.
