Spectrum Needs Your Help for the Captain Scarlet 60th Anniversary Exhibition!

Calling all Spectrum personnel! Next year marks 60 years since Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons debut to the world and the indestructible superman's anniversary needs your help.

Anderson Entertainment and the Brighton Toy & Model Museum are appealing to fans to help shape a forthcoming exhibition featuring rare props, merchandise, memorabilia and other items from the world of Captain Scarlet. The exhibition, Captain Scarlet 60, will open to the public on July 10th, 2027, also known as Captain Scarlet Day, and will run for a year at the Brighton Toy & Model Museum.

The museum and the team at Anderson Entertainment are inviting members of the public to come forward and contribute unique items and stories of their relationships with Captain Scarlet. The exhibition is co-curated by renowned graphic designer and collector, Malcolm Garrett MBE, Toy Museum trustee and Captain Scarlet superfan Steve Crump OBE, and the Anderson Entertainment team, led by Gerry Anderson's son, Jamie.

Captain Scarlet 60 will already be featuring a fantastic selection of models, collectables and more rarely seen items for this exhibition donated by a variety of celebrity Spectrum fans, including Jonathan Ross, Chris Evans, Simon Cowell, David Baddiel, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes.

“We’re delighted to be partnering with the Brighton Toy and Model Museum on this exciting exhibition,” says Jamie, “one which will bring together a raft of Captain Scarlet exhibits, indeed, some of which will surprise fans and visitors alike – illustrating just how influential Captain Scarlet has been on pop culture, fashion and music like never before”. 

“This is a first for the Brighton Toy Museum and one that offers Captain Scarlet fans, along with those of other Gerry and Sylvia Anderson productions, a unique opportunity to enjoy the pop culture, aesthetics and imagery of the show,” says Jan Etches, Manger of the Museum, who is appealing for fans to contribute items to Captain Scarlet 60.

“With the opening event a year away, work now begins on drawing together the objects that are to be meticulously curated for display. We have a raft of materials we want to add to so are asking the public to get in touch If you have any Captain Scarlet memorabilia, toys or models in a backroom cupboard or a box in the loft!"

First airing in September 1967, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons was the sixth puppet-based production from Century 21 Productions (formerly A.P. Films) to be branded as being 'filmed in Supermarionation'. The sci-fi adventure TV series catapulted the company's breath-takingly detailed model effects work and captivating pyrotechnics to darker heights. The story centres on the efforts of global peace-keeping organisation Spectrum's efforts to counter the villainous Mysterons, Martian aliens accidentally provoked by Spectrum into war against the Earth. Leading the fight is one man who fate has made indestructible - Captain Scarlet!

Tickets for Captain Scarlet 60 will be available from the Brighton Toy & Model Museum's website from Tuesday July 21st. Spectrum is green!
