26 years ago yesterday, we marked the sombre anniversary of our Moon being blasted out of orbit, with the 311 occupants of Moonbase Alpha being plunged into a fantastic journey through the stars. Unlike this otherwise fictional event, this year's Breakaway Day ties in with the very real 50th anniversary of Space: 1999! 

In celebration of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's cosmically spectacular sci-fi epic, we're marking Space: 1999's golden anniversary with a plethora of releases and events. Let's catch up on all the exciting announcements over the weekend!

Golden Eagles and Definitive Histories

You can celebrate Space: 1999's 50th anniversary with a brand new Eagle collectable and the definitive history of the classic series. The 50th Anniversary Golden Eagle is the latest in our hugely popular line of premium Eagle collectables, with this particular release capturing the classic Eagle Transporter in a dazzling gold finish that doesn't skip on all of the intricate details of the beloved vehicle. 

All Sections Alpha: The Making of Space: 1999 tells the complete story of the classic series. Written by Fred McNamara and Tim Heald, and designed by Rob Hammond, All Sections Alpha is a thoroughly updated and lavishly designed edition of Heald's original 1976 paperback, The Making of Space: 1999. This long out-of-print examination of Space: 1999's controversial reinvention for its second series has been painstakingly revised to tell the series' complete story, with new material covering the making of Year 1, an in-depth critical episode guide, spin-off media coverage, and more. Prepare for the definitive story of Space: 1999!

Breakaway Revisited

Alongside the above releases, we're revisiting Space: 1999's much-loved opening episode with a pair of fantastic releases. The Space: 1999 Breakaway 4K Collectors Edition Steelbook is the ultimate restoration of the episode many fans consider to be the definitive Space: 1999 adventure. This superb presentation restores Breakaway in ultra high definition and comes with the option of original mono or a newly produced 5.1 sound mix. Packaged in a gorgeous animated cover and with exciting extras, this breath-taking viewing experience of Space: 1999 isn't to be missed.

Big Finish's Nicholas Briggs has also prepared a digital audiobook release of the Breakaway adaptation from the 1975 Space: 1999 annual. This digital audiobook, available for free, is narrated by Briggs and enlivened with authentic sound design and music that transports you back to the retrofuture world of 1999, crafting an immersive listening experience of the cataclysmic Breakaway event.

Alphan Exhibitions

September 13th marked the opening of our captivating exhibition of classic Gerry Anderson merchandise at the Museum of Brands in London. Thunderbirds & Space: 1999 - A Celebration of Toys and Collectables features an abundance of original toys, games, and other memorabilia from all of Gerry and Sylvia's creations, including Space: 1999.

The exhibition launched over the weekend with a special VIP launch that included guest appearances and sneak peaks at prototypes of upcoming releases from Anderson Entertainment. Co-curated by renowned graphic designer and Thunderbirds superfan, Malcolm Garrett MBE, the exhibition features over 300 meticulously organised items from the worlds of Gerry Anderson, including Thunderbirds and Space: 1999. 

The exhibition runs until February 2026 and tickets can be purchased from the Museum of Brands, which is located in the Notting Hill area of London.
