Television and film producer Gerry Anderson is among the inductees into the Visual Effects Society's Hall of Fame in their 2026 awards ceremony. Gerry is one of several recipients whose pioneering work has been recognised by the Visual Effects Society (VES) for advancing the medium and technological capabilities of visual effects among filmmakers, sfx artists, executives, industry leaders and more.
Gerry's inclusion is in recognition of his ground-breaking work in developing the Supermarionation artform throughout the 1960s. Alongside Gerry, this year's other inductees into the Hall of Fame include Academy Award winner and James Cameron collaborator Jon Landau (Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Titanic, Avatar) and Ishiro Honda and Tomoyuki Tanaka, who directed and produced 1954's Godzilla, respectively.
The VES also recognised other industry professionals in this year's honours. Visual effects producer Susan Zwerman will receive the VES Founder Award as well as a Lifetime VES Membership. Computer graphics pioneer and Synthespain Studios co-founder Jeff Kleiser will also receive a Lifetime VES Membership. Framestore co-founder Sir William Sargent and Academy Award-winning special effects supervisor Scott Stokdyk (The Fifth Element, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, The Fantastic Four: First Steps) will have their globally recognised efforts celebrated by being made Honorary VES Members.
Four new VES Fellows have also been honoured; SpinVFX founder and CEO Neishaw Ali (The Boys, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Umbrella Academy), international VFX marketing executive Rita Cahill, creative technology executive Barbara Ford Grant (Hancock, Madagascar, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), and longtime VES leader Susan Thurmond O’Neal.
This year's honours will be celebrated at the VES Honours Celebration on September 4th at the Skirball Cultural Centre in Los Angeles.
VES Board Chair, Kim Davidson, says: "The VES Honors Celebration is a highlight for us every year, as our community gathers to recognize these incredible pioneers and the range of impacts they’ve had on the visual effects industry. It makes it all the more special that these honorees were submitted for consideration by VES members themselves. We look forward to honoring them in person in September."
Under Gerry Anderson's direction, many skilled and talented puppeteers, model makers and visual effects directors all played invaluable roles in perfecting the artform of Supermarionation. Thanks to Gerry's leadership, creative imagination and mechanical eye, the likes of Thunderbirds, Stingray, Fireball XL5, Captain Scarlet and more all remain definitive works in science fiction television which set incredibly high standards with their advanced visual effects. After the heyday of Supermarionation during the 1960s, Gerry continued to work with an abundance of talented visual effects directors on such later works as UFO, Space: 1999, Terrahawks, Space Precinct and more.
