Ben Carrington

A new generation of rescuers
When lives are at risk and conventional help cannot get through, Gemini Force brings together specialist people and remarkable technology to attempt the rescue. It is an organisation built around expertise, courage and the conviction that saving someone is worth the danger.
For sixteen-year-old Ben Carrington, it also offers a possible future. After his father's death, his mother Caroline becomes involved with the team. Ben wants to join them, but enthusiasm is not the same as experience. He has to learn how to earn the trust of people who put their lives in one another's hands.
One of Gerry's final projects
Gerry Anderson devised and developed Gemini Force One during the final years of his life. Author M. G. Harris, known for The Joshua Files, completed the project with the support of Gerry's estate and Jamie Anderson.
A successful Kickstarter campaign helped bring the first book to readers. A collectors' edition appeared through Gollancz in 2014, followed by the Orion Children's Books editions. The project grew into a trilogy: Black Horizon, Ghost Mine and White Storm.
The novels bring Gerry's rescue-adventure tradition into prose. They have their own characters and setting; readers do not need prior knowledge of Thunderbirds or any other Anderson production.
Read the trilogy in order
- Black Horizon: meet Ben and the team as he tries to prove that he belongs in the world of international rescue. This is the starting point for the characters and their relationships.
- Ghost Mine: an emergency involving trapped miners in South Africa becomes more complicated when powerful interests appear reluctant to let the rescuers reach them. Trust matters as much as technical ability.
- White Storm: Ben and his friends face an ordeal of ice, hostile weather and a rescue that pushes them to their limits.
The books were written for younger adventure readers, with the specialist team, machinery and race-against-time situations that also appeal to longtime Anderson fans. Following the sequence lets Ben's growing experience and relationships develop naturally.

Meet the team
Ben's mother, Caroline Brandis-Carrington, brings experience as a climber and mountain rescuer. Jason Truby supplies the ambition and resources behind the wider organisation. Around them is a team of pilots, engineers and medical specialists whose different skills make difficult missions possible.
Ben's place among these adults is part of the story's appeal. M. G. Harris deliberately preserved a capable professional team rather than turning every role into a teenage prodigy. Friendship, humour and the pressure to prove himself give Ben a personal route through large-scale adventures.

Gemini Force One shares Thunderbirds' belief in rescue, ingenuity and cooperation, but explores those values through a new cast and a teenager learning his limits. Its atmosphere comes as much from the relationships within the team as from the scale of the emergency.
