Last week was all about Space:1999 as we celebrated Breakaway Day, an annual international celebration of all things Space:1999 held each year on September 13th; the date that the Moon was blown out of Earth orbit in the first episode of the series (and coincidentally the date of series star Barbara Bain's birthday)! Across the Day came a series of exciting announcements and events - here's the highlights of the Day!
To start with, we're very excited to have the Space:1999 Comic Anthology now available to pre-order from the Official Gerry Anderson Store! This beautiful 300+ page hardback book collects all of the British Space:1999 strip stories from the pages of Look-in and includes a variety of background articles and interviews to provide context, as well as insights into the foreign reprints and its American counterpart magazines and comics. Early pre-orderers will also receive a free Space:1999 jigsaw with their purchase (while stocks last) when it ships in late October.
Also coming soon from the Official Gerry Anderson Store is a new range of Eagle models, which will soon be available to pre-order! Visit this page to register your interest in these new Eagles, so that you can pre-order as soon as they go live!

As part of the Breakaway Day celebration Jack Knoll and David Munday presented a special livestream event in the evening celebrating the series and featuring two very special guests!

Also launching on Breakaway Day was an exciting new documentary celebrating the star vehicle of Space:1999! The Eagle Has Landed is the brainchild of writer/director Jeffrey Morris, who very kindly spoke to us about the project in an interview this week. If you'd like to help bring the film to life, you can pledge your support at the Kickstarter here.
Breakaway Day will return on September 13th 2024 as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Moon being blown out of the Earth's orbit - but is there anything extra special you'd like to see to mark the occasion? Let us know in the comments below!
