We're incredibly sad to report that Richard Gregory - a master of film and television effects, animatronics and design has passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.
Gerry Anderson's son Jamie wrote the following short tribute to Richard after hearing the news:
Richard was a genuine one of a kind, and one of the kindest men I’ve ever met.
He was part of my life from a very early age, giving me my first ride in a Dalek, my first experience building models, my first try at sculpting an alien head, my first attempt at building a prop, and most recently being one of the most crucial parts of my first major pilot for Gerry Anderson’s Firestorm.
Richard was one of Dad’s greatest supporters, and since Dad’s death had become one of my greatest supporters too. He was a constant rock, source of support and inspiration, and the sense of loss I feel now is second only to losing Dad in 2012.
My thoughts are with Richard’s amazing partner Carol, Ruth and their families, and with Richard’s many colleagues and friends. We are all the poorer for his loss. But he has left a legacy of positivity and contribution to so many lives and productions, that we are all truly richer for what he leaves behind.
