Watching the Worlds of Gerry Anderson

Gerry Anderson's incredible worlds of jeopardous heroism, spectacular adventure, and ground-breaking science fiction have rarely been completely absent from our TV screens. In our current age of 24/7 streaming and collector-orientated home media releases, there's never been a better time to discover Gerry's work, and there's currently a variety of accessible ways for you to experience his fantastic creations.

Whether its tuning into a classic slice of Supermarionation on television, streaming any number of his series on demand, or owning his works in spectacular HD, let's have a rundown of all the ways you can currently watch Gerry Anderson's productions!

Now - on the Small Screen!

Streaming may be vastly overtaking traditional means of broadcasting, but a variety of archive TV channels are still in active service, specialising in the cult, the classic, and the sci-fi of yesteryear. Recent years have seen fresh outings for Gerry and Sylvia's live-action productions; UFO on the now defunct Forces TV; Space: 1999 on the Horror Channel; and The Protectors on ITV4. 

Currently, Talking Pictures TV has become the premier destination to enjoy the Supermarionation worlds from Century 21 Productions. Over the past few years, the beloved classic TV and film channel has been providing fresh broadcasts of many of Gerry and Sylvia's puppet heroes. Fireball XL5, Thunderbirds, Supercar, and Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons have all enjoyed renewed outings. Stingray is the most recent Supermarionation series to become part of the channel's line-up. The 1964 underwater saga currently airs on Saturdays at 10:00 AM and Sundays at 05:30 AM.

For American audiences who may also be of an insomniac persuasion, MeTV Toons has proven the ideal channel to enjoy these classic series Stateside. MeTV Toons specialises in classic animated productions, mostly American, including classic cartoon shorts spanning the 1930s and 1970s, 1980s hits, Hanna-Barbera, and more, all divided up into uniquely defined broadcasting blocks. 

Between the hours of 04:00 AM and 05:30 AM ET, MeTV Toons broadcasts the amusingly titled Known Strings Attached block, which comprises of classic episodes from Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Fireball XL5, Joe 90, Supercar, and Fireball XL5 on a revolving line-up.

A veritable swarm of Gerry Anderson's worlds is readily available on ITVX. The vast majority of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's creations, plus Gerry's post-Space: 1999 productions, can be enjoyed on the streaming platform - that includes Supercar, Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, The Secret Service, UFO, The Protectors, Space: 1999, Terrahawks, Space Precinct, and New Captain Scarlet. For American audiences, Shout! TV and Pluto TV are the places to be to enjoy Gerry's works.

You can also enjoy a selection of documentaries, rarely seen works, and other behind-the-scenes specials, including the highly acclaimed Gerry Anderson: A Life Uncharted, with its own accompanying making-of special. A three-episode highlights selection from The Lost Worlds of Gerry Anderson is also available, which includes Into Infinity, the spy-fi surrealism of The Investigator, and Space Police, the embryonic pilot for the series that would become Space Precinct. You can expand your Thunderbirds experience further by discovering Thunderbirds Are Go on ITVX and its own YouTube channel, or even the 2004 live-action Thunderbirds movie on Sky, Now Cinema, and Apple TV - if you're feeling brave. 

The Official Gerry Anderson YouTube Channel also offer a treasure trove of classic Gerry Anderson productions to indulge in. We've recently uploaded the entirety of Terrahawks for free, in addition to the sizeable selection of episodes from Terrahawks' audio continuation already on offer. Complete episodes of New Captain Scarlet and Space Precinct are also readily available over on the Official Gerry Anderson YouTube Channel.

ITV Retro has rapidly become the premier online haven for fans of cult television from ITV's back catalogue. Episodes of Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, and The Secret Service are regularly uploaded to the channel. Terrahawks is also featured on the channel, as is the rarely seen Thunderbirds: The Anniversary Episodes. ITV Retro is also the place to catch Thunderbirds at 60 (also on ITVX), a celebratory mini-series presented by Scarlett Moffatt in recognition of Thunderbirds' 60th anniversary. The series features Scarlett joined by a variety of special guests to celebrate the long-lasting legacy and imaginative genius of Thunderbirds.

Plenty of other cult contemporaries from Lew Grade's ITC world of entertainment and other fantastic science fiction series are also on the channel - The Prisoner, The Persuaders!, Timeslip, Sapphire and Steel, and an abundance of other comedies, adventure series, films and beyond.
