A different side of Gerry Anderson
Crossroads to Crime was originally released in 1960, between the making of Four Feather Falls and Supercar. It remains the only feature film directed by Gerry Anderson: a modest live-action crime story, well before the elaborate miniature worlds most closely associated with his name.
The film brought together several people whose work would become familiar across later Anderson productions, including George Murcell, David Graham, Sylvia Anderson and composer Barry Gray.
What the 2013 edition preserved
Network announced its DVD for 19 August 2013. The surviving film negative had been edited in the 1960s to replace the original titles with titles for the Edgar Wallace Mysteries series. That material formed the basis of the transfer, while the original titles were included separately as a special feature.
The edition also included Remembering Crossroads to Crime, a retrospective featuring recollections from the cast and crew. Gerry Anderson and editor David Elliott were among those who looked back on the production, sometimes with rather mixed feelings.
