Classic comic strips

Stingray Comic Anthology Vol. 1: Tales from the Depths and Stingray Comic Anthology Vol. 2: Battle Lines expand our continuing range of Gerry Anderson comic collections. Produced to tie-in with Stingray's 60th anniversary in October 2024, the anthologies collect Stingray's comic strip adventures from the pages of TV Century 21, Lady Penelope, Countdown, Stingray the Comic and The Funday Times.
Tales from the Depths collects the first 23 Stingray stories from TV Century 21, spanning 154 issues worth of material from 1965 to 1967. Plenty of classic storylines are featured in this first volume, including 'Escape from Aquatraz', 'The Monster Weed Menace', 'The Flying Fish Mystery' and 'A Trip to England'. All these stories are brilliantly illustrated by Ron Embleton, Gerry Embleton and Michael Strand.
Battle Lines collects the remaining TV21 material, including the Stingray strip's lengthily and ambitious finale, 'Marineville Traitor', along with the batch of standalone comic stories from the various TV21 specials and extras. From there, Battle Lines dives deep into a treasure trove of lesser-seen gems from across Stingray's comics, many of which are presented here for the first time since their original publication throughout the 1960s/70s!

From the pages of Lady Penelope comes Marina, Girl of the Sea. This lavishly illustrated science-fantasy saga tells the engrossing story of how the WASP's mute heroine came to lose her voice and showcases her adventures battling against warlord Titan prior to Marina becoming a part of the Stingray crew. Stingray's five eclectic adventures from the pages of Countdown are also showcased here, offering an unpredictable range of scenarios, including underwater earthquakes, cyber saboteurs and a madman hunting down WASP submarines!
All of these classic adventures have been painstakingly restored by the anthologies' layout/restoration expert Rob Hammond and both collections come packed with insightful essays by Fred McNamara, charting the publication history, creator biographies and critical commentaries on these classic comics.
New adventures
The two Stingray Comic Anthologies also form crucial components of our 60th anniversary transmedia saga - Stingray: Deadly Uprising. The saga consists of multiple instalments, with Tales from the Depths and Battle Lines forming the second and fourth sections, respectively.
The brand new comics included in Tales from the Depths follow on from the startling events of Chris Dale's novel, The Titanican Stratagem, in which Titan puts his audacious plan into action of attempting to form an uneasy alliance with other underwater races to devastate Marineville once and for all. His initial efforts provoke mixed results, with some familiar faces from the classic series threatening both Titanica and Marineville alike!

Five new comic adventures continue the saga, with new and familiar alien races becoming caught in Titan's grand ambitions. While an interconnected thread of escalating danger unites these adventures, they can still be enjoyed as standalone stories. These comics also end the anthology on a deadly cliffhanger in which Stingray's ultimate fate is thrown into chaos.
Bob Ayres' Stingray novel, Project Orca, occupies events between both anthologies before the electrifying finale of Deadly Uprising occurs in the new comic stories included in Battle Lines. Titan's forces unleash their merciless assault against Marineville in a final, desperate bid for victory - even managing to snatch the WASP's latest war vessel, the Orca, for his own devious ends!
Now, it's the WASP's turn to try to enlist the aid of underwater civilisations to halt the seemingly unstoppable Titan, for who victory is surely within his grasp...

A variety of heavyweight industry talent brings these thrilling new adventures to life, including James Swallow (UFO, Space: 1999), Matt Brooker (Judge Dredd, Miracleman), Keith Burns (Battle Action), Lee Sullivan (Doctor Who, The Transformers), Jon McCrea (Judge Dredd, The Boys, Spider-Man), Nick Abadzis (Doctor Who, 2000 AD), Simon Fraser (2000 AD, Kingsman), and more.
The Stingray Comic Anthologies celebrate Stingray's legacy in comic form and propel the submarine into the future with compelling new adventures that capture all the enthralling mystery and danger of the original series. Order your copies of both Tales from the Depths and Battle Lines now!
