In a shocking turn of events, Joe 90 has been cleared of all charges relating to the theft of the Royston Diamonds!
Last weeks sensational heist left the police baffled and the World Intelligence Network at a loss for comment. However, in the last few hours the answers have been brought to light by Joe 90 himself. Speaking to our security correspondent, agent 90 told the whole story.
“It began just under two weeks ago. We received a telephone call from a mysterious stranger, who told us that he had orchestrated the kidnapping of my father’s old colleague, Mr Lomax. Somehow the man on the phone knew we were tied in with WIN and warned us not to make contact with them, or Lomax would be killed.
We asked what he wanted and he said that he would trade Lomax for the Royston Diamonds, delivered to an arranged rendezvous within 48 hours. That didn’t give us a lot of time. Of course my father and I thought about telling WIN everything and getting official support, but if the kidnapper knew we were WIN agents, he’d probably know if we made contact with HQ. Keeping our plans to ourselves was the only way we could be sure no harm would come to Mr Lomax.
Being an electronics expert, it didn’t take long for dad to come up with a way to disable the security systems at the bank, but that was only one problem facing us. I also had to navigate the laser net and open the vault door. In the end I used three brain patterns, but not all at once. Dad was worried that there could be some nasty side-effects, so he loaded each brain pattern onto a separate micro circuit so that I could switch between them when I needed to.
You already know how I got the diamonds out of there, but not what happened next. The rendezvous was arranged at an abandoned steelworks on the outskirts of the city. I was instructed to come alone and bring only the diamonds. Mr Lomax would be released only when the stones had been checked.
Arriving at the deserted warehouse, I left the case in the centre of a small office at the side of the building and then moved back as instructed. It didn’t take the kidnapper long to appear, but he was alone. I got quite a surprise when I realised why – the man aiming the gun at me was Mr Lomax. The kidnapping had been faked and Lomax wanted the diamonds for himself and was using me to take the blame.
Keeping me covered, Lomax opened the case to check the diamonds. He hadn’t bargained for the small gas charge dad had installed in the lock of the case. As soon as the latch was sprung, a cloud of white vapour sprayed him in the face and within seconds he was unconscious. From there it was a simple matter of contacting the authorities and handing over the diamonds to the police when they arrived.”
Thanks to agent 90, the Royston Diamonds are safely under lock and key once more. Lomax is being questioned by WIN security personnel as to how he knew of the McClaines’ connection to the organisation. On behalf of the World Press, we’re sorry for doubting you, Joe 90!
