After many months of preparation, shooting began this week on the pilot minisode for Gerry Anderson’s Firestorm. This minisode will be used to present potential distributors with a taste of what a full series of Firestorm might be like. Steve Begg, who began working for Gerry Anderson on Terrahawks and has been responsible for the special effects on many of the latest Bond films, has taken on directing duties with Mike Tucker and his team at The Model Unit contributing a great deal to the special effects and model work.
The first week has already presented a great deal of classic practical film making techniques associated with previous Gerry Anderson productions. The first major shot to be completed was the explosion of the island base of the villainous Black Orchid organisation. We’re sure Derek Meddings would be proud!
Then work began on bringing the new Ultramarionation puppets to life. Richard Gregory and his team have built a stunning Black Orchid corridor set which the puppet characters fit into beautifully.
The puppets are being brought to life by renowned puppeteer Andrew James Spooner and his incredible team. Watching them being brought to life for the first time on camera was a great experience for the crew as their wide range of expressions was utilised.
Backers of the project on Kickstarter have access to the special production blog for more behind the scenes information. We hope to bring you more exciting developments next week!
