Lady P Replica is Going, Going, Gone!
Although just 19 inches tall and made of fibreglass and resin, Lady Penelope of Thunderbirds fame is set to break through fundraising barriers as an online auction opens tomorrow (Friday 7 August) in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.
Donated by replica builder Vaughan Herriott, replica has optic eyes, a moving mechanical mouth and the same teeth as the original puppet that once graced UK TV screens back in 1965, 50 years ago.
Gerry’s son, Jamie Anderson said: “In 2011 my Father was diagnosed with mixed dementia. We had known there was something going on for a long time, but to get the actual diagnosis changed his, and my mother’s lives. Sadly Dad passed away from complications related to his dementia on boxing day 2012. Before he died he fulfilled his ambition of raising awareness of dementia and funds for Alzheimer’s Society who do a tremendous job supporting people living with the condition and their families. He’d be so pleased to know of the sale of one of this fantastic replica of one of his most iconic characters in aid of a charity that was so close to his heart.”
Wearing a blue satin dress with matching blue shoes and white feather boa, Lady Penelope will be an internet sensation when the ebay auction opens this Friday evening at 5pm via http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lady-Penelope-fan-made-replica-puppet-donated-by-Jamie-Anderson-/281766898021?item=281766898021
Fans and collectors alike will be able to place their bids, in aid of Alzheimer’s Society knowing they are helping to support people to live well with dementia and to fund research to one day find a cure.
An important cause
Sabrina Sallis, Regional Fundraising Manager for Alzheimer’s Society said: “We are very grateful to Jamie, and the fan who kindly donated Lady Penelope to this important cause. One in three people over 65 will develop dementia. It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones.
In its hay day Thunderbirds was broadcast across 66 countries – it will be interesting to see where Lady Penelope will be heading on this next voyage!”
The replica also has a 1st generation head cast made of fibre glass like the original, and real human hair, please visit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lady-Penelope-fan-made-replica-puppet-donated-by-Jamie-Anderson-/281766898021?item=281766898021 to take a peek.
