It’s been another busy week in our corner of the Anderson universe – here’s all the things you need to know!
This week’s content kicked off on Monday with the latest edition of the Gerry Anderson Podcast, concluding the three-part archive interview with Century 21 Merchandising head Keith Shackleton. In this final installment, the merchandising and licensing expert discusses the 1990s Thunderbirds revival, whether or not CGI would be able to replicate what was created in the 1960s, and how he told the story of the making of Space:1999. If you missed this week’s episode you can catch it (and all other previous episodes) either through our website or via your podcast platform of choice!
Also new this week over on the Gerry Anderson Randomiser podcast (also available on all podcast platforms) Captain Scarlet was assigned to protect an undercover spy from assassination in the fashion world, in Model Spy!
In anticipation of the upcoming launch of Five Star Five The Doomsday Device, the sequel to the novel based on Gerry Anderson and Tony Barwick’s unmade 1979 feature film script, we took a look back at several other unrealised Anderson productions of the small and silver screen with an article about the lost worlds of Gerry Anderson!
To accompany the lost worlds article, we also released a new compilation of four videos from our Primers YouTube series all touching on productions mentioned in the article; The Investigator, The Day After Tomorrow, Dick Spanner and Space Police!
On Wednesday this week’s FAB Fact video went live, discussing an embarrassing incident befalling Barbara Bain during production of the Space:1999 episode The Full Circle – although Richard has his doubts on this one!
Also on Wednesday, we caught up with author Andrew E.C. Gaska for an interview about To Everything That Was, a long out of print 2013 Space:1999 book featuring a collection of classic comic strips adapted and revised to serve as a bridge between Years 1 and 2 of the show. A new 300+ page hardback reprint of To Everything That Was is now available to pre-order from the Official Gerry Anderson Store at a special pre-order price of £35.99, with shipping expected in mid-April 2023.
In more Space:1999 news, our friends at Big Finish announced the latest installment of their reimagined audio version of the series! Read more about what you can expect in the next volume here, including the return of an old and terrifying enemy…
