Calling all Spectrum agents – report for the Gerry Anderson news roundup!
This week’s edition of the Gerry Anderson Podcast launched on Monday, and featured the second half of our interview with Captain Scarlet fan and cosplayer Ellie Collins! It may be Pod 265 but it’s also the second video edition of the Podcast, though if you prefer to stick with the traditional audio-only format you can catch it (and all other previous episodes) every week either through our website or via your podcast platform of choice.
Wonder which scene from Captain Scarlet is Ellie’s favourite? Check it out in the above clip!
Also new this week over on the Gerry Anderson Randomiser Podcast (also available on all podcast platforms) The Protectors faced a case of mistaken identity when they attempt to save a captured spy, in the episode One and One Makes One!
On Wednesday this week’s FAB Fact video went back to the time when the disappearance of Dick Spanner became national news! But did it really happen at all? Watch the video to find out more!
On Monday July the 10th we celebrated all things Captain Scarlet (both Supermarionation and CGI) with our annual Captain Scarlet Day! We had several exciting merchandise launches throughout the day, kicking off with the latest Captain Scarlet audio story Martian Menace! Now available to pre-order on CD from the Official Gerry Anderson Store or download via the Big Finish website, this 75 minute adventure is an adaptation of a TV21 comic strip story read by New Captain Scarlet himself Wayne Forester. Have you ordered your copy yet? Don’t miss out!
While you’re in a Mysteron mood you might also want to pick up the limited edition 2023 Captain Scarlet Day t-shirt design – and show your support for our Martian foes!
One Captain Scarlet Day release you unfortunately won’t be able to order anymore is our limited edition collection of reproduction A3 prints featuring Ron Embleton’s 10 spectacular end credits paintings from the original series! This limited edition of 100 sets sold out in just over 24 hours – were you lucky enough to grab one before they vanished?
To wrap Captain Scarlet Day up in style Jack Knoll and David Munday hosted a 2 hour livestream event in the evening, celebrating both the Supermarionation and CGI incarnations of Scarlet, including games and trivia with an interactive audience! Did you enjoy the stream, and Captain Scarlet Day overall? If you have any comments for how we can improve the event for 2024, let us know in the comments below!
If you’re still in the mood for even more Captain Scarlet after all that, ITVX and Britbox have got you covered with this new documentary about the making of the series!
New today on our YouTube channel is a UFO documentary short in which series stars Ed Bishop and Gabrielle Drake discuss where the series went wrong – and where it went right! Do you agree with their thoughts? Let us know in the comments below!
Among the Anderson actors celebrating birthdays this week were legendary voice artist David Graham (July 11th), Space Precinct star Mary Woodvine (July 14th), Doppelgänger actress Lynn Loring (July 14th), and Lavender Castle voice artist Jimmy Hibbert (July 15th)! Popular episodes that first aired in the UK this week in years past include The Protectors’ Brother Hood (July 14th 1972), Terrahawks‘ Operation Zero (July 12th 1986) and Space Precinct’s Smelter Skelter (July 15th 1995).
