Better get some sausages cooking, Captain – it’s time for the Gerry Anderson news roundup!
This week’s edition of the Gerry Anderson Podcast launched on Monday, and featured the first half of our latest interview with comics artist Lee Sullivan! If you prefer to stick with the traditional audio-only podcast rather than our new and improved video format you can still catch it (and all other previous episodes) every week either through our website or via your podcast platform of choice.
Fancy learning what Fireball XL5 toys were the pride of Lee’s childhood collection? Have a look at the above clip!
Also new this week over on the Gerry Anderson Randomiser Podcast (also available on all podcast platforms) the residents of Four Feather Falls fell victim to the latest conman to ride into town, in the episode Safe as Houses!
On Wednesday this week’s explores the reusage of various elements of Four Feather Falls, Supercar and Fireball XL5 in later productions – everything from props to actual footage! Watch the video to find out more!
AC is back with another Ander-Answers article, this time pondering the issue of why UFO’s SHADO interceptors only carry one missile each!
This week’s big news has been the announcement that Anderson Entertainment has taken over physical and streaming rights for Roberta Leigh’s 1962 sci-fi puppet series Space Patrol! Although not an Anderson production (but often mistaken for one) Space Patrol also ran for 39 episodes, and remains as fondly remembered today as Fireball XL5.
Space Patrol had previously been available on DVD and Blu-ray (and originally VHS) from Network but went out of print when the company folded earlier this year – so if you missed getting the Network Blu-rays, here’s your chance to catch up with the crew of Galasphere 347 as you can now pre-order the Anderson Entertainment release of Space Patrol on Blu-ray here! (Please note the contents are exactly the same as the previous Network release; all 39 episodes in HD with no extras.)
To celebrate the upcoming re-release, new today on our YouTube channel is a Space Patrol documentary short in which series producers Roberta Leigh and Arthur Provis discuss the origins of and inspiration for the series!
Celebrating birthdays this week were Space:1999 star Catherine Schell (July 17th) and Terrahawks voice artist Beth Chalmers (July 20th) while popular episodes that first aired in the UK this week in years past include Supercar ‘Take One’ (July 16th 1961), Terrahawks‘ The Sporilla (July 19th 1986) and Space Precinct’s The Fire Within part 1 (July 22nd 1995).
All in order, Captain – we’ll see you for more next weekend!
