Following the incredible success of 2021’s Space:1999 Moonbase Alpha Technical Operations Manual, the same creative team that brought you that book returns to explore the world of UFO in equal depth and detail!
Across 208 full colour pages, the SHADO Technical Operations Manual will immerse readers in the world of UFO like never before! Presented as an in-universe orientation book for new recruits to the top-secret organisation (circa 1983), the manual presents a history of the events leading up to the formation of SHADO, biographies of key SHADO personnel, the origins of the Aliens and the reasons for their ongoing visits to Earth. As you can see from the contents page, the Manual covers pretty much everything you might want to know about SHADO and the Aliens!
Key locations from the series will explored, including SHADO Headquarters and Moonbase, with a heavy focus on the organisation’s vast array of vehicles and equipment – brought to life in over 180 brand new CGI illustrations. Eagle-eyed readers may also spot a few nods to the future of Space:1999, as well as several projects that may hint at potential solutions to SHADO’s Alien problems based on information presented in the television series. The manual even explores (and answers!) several of the show’s more infamous logistical problems, including the single missiles of the SHADO interceptors, how interceptor pilots actually get from the launch chutes in the cockpits of their vehicles, and the purple wigs of the female Moonbase operatives!
On Tuesday September 20th, author and designer Chris Thompson joined Jamie Anderson for a forty-minute online discussion of the book and its contents, which you can watch here:
As with the 1999 manual, the UFO SHADO Technical Operations Manual will be available from the Official Gerry Anderson Store in two editions; standard and limited deluxe edition. The contents of the deluxe edition are top secret – for now! However, you can join Jamie and Chris again for another livestream briefing event (linked below) on Monday September 26th at 6.30pm UK time for a discussion of the special edition and its contents – with pre-orders for both versions going live the next day!
