The Railway Magazine & Virgin Trains raising money for the Gerry Anderson Tribute Fund at the Alzheimer’s Society. The magazine is proud to have teamed up with Virgin Trains to auction two Class 57/3 ‘Thunderbird’ nameplates.
Every single penny raised from the two highest bids will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society, at the request of Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson’s family. It is the first public auction of any of the nameplates that were carried by the popular rescue locos, and present a rare opportunity to snap up a highly-prized nameplate.
The two Virgin Trains Thunderbirds nameplates being auctioned will be from No. 57308 TinTin, and from 57311 Parker. Both plates will have reserve prices. In addition to the nameplates, the winning bidders will also get the cast International Rescue crest carried above the plate. The plates are in ex-locomotive condition and un-restored, but will come with a certificate of authenticity.
Closing date for the auction is 5pm (UK time) on November 29. The winning bidders will be informed on December 2, and there follows a 14-day period to complete the purchase and collection.
You can place your bid via the Railway Magazine website at http://www.railwaymagazine.co.uk/competitions/?compID=01985&magCode=rm
