Vote for the International Rescue Corps!

Just recently, the International Rescue Corps were accepted and published as part of the Aviva Community Fund.

The public can place up to 10 votes towards the charitable schemes that they would like to support and voting is open until the 18th November 2016.

Once voting finishes, the top few charities within each category are put forward to a panel to decide on which charities win the funding.

The project is aiming to gain enough votes to acquire £25,000 for the purchase of a four-wheel drive vehicle. The vehicle will be used to support the team when responding to severe weather events, flooding and any event needing equipment carried over difficult terrain.

Please follow this link, which will take you directly to the IRC project page.

The International Rescue Corps (IRC) are an international search and rescue team; our role is primarily international but we have seen an increase in our role within the UK. Over several years, we have seen that our expertise in flood work was and is desperately needed to help local communities both with primary help in assisting people out of their houses during the flood, and secondary in helping the communities cope with the aftermath of the flood. We have worked in many areas within England and Scotland, most recently in Carlisle and Kendal. We have also attended numerus UK missions including the Stockline Plastics factory disaster in Mary Hill, Glasgow, we worked alongside many of the emergency services all with the one aim to save life.

009377e6665dac31eb242ad811a2630bDuring our rescue efforts, we supplied several qualified rescue workers, who have the skills to help in floods, building collapse, command and control, communications, first aid, liaison roles, needs assessments, and much more. All our members are volunteers, IRC have no paid members, and so every penny we raise comes from public donations, and every penny is spent on rescue work. Our volunteers give up their free time to train and to attend emergencies both within the UK and worldwide.

We constantly need to renew and service our equipment, but our priority before the next floods is a 4×4 vehicle, this will help us in our endeavour to save life by maintaining our ability to gain vital access to remote areas, but also those areas isolated due to disasters or floods. We are realistic in our expectations and extremely conscious of charity money donated to us, we are constantly researching good equipment that we can use and not just the most expensive.

The name of the organisiation is not entirely a coincidence. Gerry Anderson himself was an honorary chairman and the organisation still is very important to as it upholds the values of his work. We would really appreciate it if you would please take the time to vote.
