NZ Mint Celebrating Thunderbirds 50th Anniversary with commemorative coins!
The New Zealand Mint is kicking off the celebration of this special anniversary by releasing it’s THUNDERBIRDS 50 YEARS collectible coins series.
Thunderbirds were a 1960’s British television sci-fi hit, using puppets and special effects to follow the exploits of the futuristic heroes; ex-astronaut Jeff Tracy, his family and their fleet of technologically advanced land-, sea-, air- and space-rescue vehicles in their battle against the forces of evil.
2015 marks the exciting remake of this classic Thunderbirds TV-series, which will be broadcast on CITV from April 2015 onwards, 50 years after the original. To co-inside with the airing of this classic remake, New Zealand Mint is releasing a Limited Edition coin series featuring the iconic Thunderbirds.
The first coin released is a 1 oz Silver Coin and features a gold-plated Thunderbirds 50th Anniversary logo. This highly collectible coin comes packaged in a Thunderbirds-themed coin case, making it a nostalgic gift for any Thunderbirds fan or coin aficionado.
“Our design team has really enjoyed the challenge of working with these icons of 1960’s entertainment and translating the classic Thunderbirds designs onto Silver coins. We believe that Thunderbirds fans and collectors will be thrilled to see the coin series revealed over the next few months.” said New Zealand Mint Chief Executive, Simon Harding.
