The Day After Tomorrow, Gerry Anderson’s 1975 pilot film, is coming to Blu-ray next week at the Official Gerry Anderson Store!
Produced in 1975 between the two seasons of Space:1999 (and featuring familiar 1999 cast members and set elements) The Day After Tomorrow (also known by its shorter sub-title Into Infinity) first aired in December 1975 on NBC, and then on the BBC just over a year later. In this 50 minute educational special, the crew of the lightship Altares become lost in space after an accident with the ship’s photon drive hurls them beyond all known reference points, and into the path of multiple space phenomena! Unfortunately the original film material for the special is currently missing believed destroyed, but now we’ve used AI-upscaling technology to breathe new life into the best surviving copy for this new HD Blu-ray release of The Day After Tomorrow.
Bonus features on the disc include the new 40-minute documentary Memories of Infinity, featuring cast members Brian Blessed, Nick Tate and Katharine Levy. There’s also a chance to meet the man behind the music of The Day After Tomorrow, Derek Wadsworth, in a short archive feature about his contribution to the special.
If you fancy watching the episode itself with input from those who worked on it, there’s also an accompanying audio and visual commentary track featuring actors Brian Blessed and Katharine Levy, plus a wealth of photographic material – much of it previously unseen! The collector’s edition Blu-ray also includes a slipcase plus a poster sporting designer Martin Bower’s original design schematic of the Altares.
This new limited edition AI-upscaled Blu-ray release of The Day After Tomorrow runs to just 1000 copies, and will be live for pre-order at the Official Gerry Anderson Store on January 26th, and shipping from February 2nd!
